A family-run, working farm in Silverdale, Washington, Pheasant Fields Farm serves Kitsap County up a whole lot of farm fresh produce and good old-fashioned family-oriented fun.
We have an EXCITING fresh new face on the farm! Meet your vegetable and CSA farmer, Danielle Morrisey! Meet Your Farmer – Danielle Morrisey
Greetings to all friends and supporters of Pheasant Fields Farm!
My name is Danielle, but around here I am known as Dani! I am thrilled to be joining the team here at Pheasant Fields this year. Farmer Nikki has brought me on to manage the vegetable production of the farm, which includes growing vegetables for our CSA, the Silverdale and Poulsbo Farmers Markets, our on-site Pheasant Fields Farm Stand, and some local restaurants. I have a large variety of crops planned to go in the ground this year and we have a very bountiful season ahead of us!
I grew up in Boise, Idaho in a little urban neighborhood near the beautiful foothills of the Treasure Valley. Since I was little, I’ve always wanted to save the world. I first found my passion for Social Justice issues in high school, which led me to college in Portland where I received a BA in Sociology and Spanish. While in college, I began to focus my social justice passion primarily on environmental justice. I helped start the University of Portland SLUG community garden (Student Led Unity Garden) and realized how I could do my part to save the world – by learning sustainable organic agriculture.
After graduating college, I attended the Greenbank Farm Organic Farm School program on Whidbey Island in 2012. The Greenbank Farm OFS is like a farming trade school – we followed curriculums on organic farming methods and small farm business management from UC Santa Cruz’s parallel farm school program. One of my favorite projects on the farm was creating an on-farm composting system to see what is involved in making (rather than buying) all the compost to suit the needs of a 5-acre farm. The training I received at the OFS taught me innovative ways to create and maintain an organic, sustainable, closed-loop farm system.
In the years following my graduation from Greenbank Farm OFS, I was fortunate to continue my farming career as the Assistant Farm Manager & Teacher at the OFS. In addition, I started my own small farm business that included weekly deliveries to local Whidbey grocers and a winter CSA. I worked on various other Whidbey farms and also have experience in draft horse farming, as I love horses. I’m a recent transplant to the peninsula and am excited to continue living the farming dream within the incredible Kitsap community!
I’ll repeat - we have a great season planned here, and we want to share the bounty with you! Please stop by the farm anytime to say hi to Farmer Nikki and meet your new farmers (ME and the crew!) in person. You can also come see us at the Poulsbo and Silverdale Farmers Markets, or come buy your produce at our Pheasant Fields Farm Stand starting in June right here at the farm. If you are interested in our CSA program (May – October), CLICK HERE.
I greatly look forward to getting to know each of you who enrich this wonderful and welcoming Kitsap community. So far, everyone I have met has shown me the dedication they have to supporting and growing our local economy and I feel blessed to be a part of it!
Thanks for doing your part to save the world too, by supporting Pheasant Fields Farm, and we hope to see you soon!
