Welcome to Pheasant Fields Farm

We are located in Silverdale, 2 miles north of the Kitsap Mall on Clear Creek road. Our farm was homesteaded in 1885 by the Conrad Peterson family who built a large egg ranch. From 1942 through 1948, the Cloud family farmed the land. In 1949, Nikki's family purchased the farm and sold eggs, pork and beef for over 30 years. In recent years, more land was cleared and cultivated to raise vegetables. Our beef is raised on another farm. Today our activities are diversified and our 15 acre farm is the home for 2 goats, 2 sheep, 2 llamas, a lot of chickens & ducks, 3 cats and 2 dogs; friends & and a whole bunch of kids and their families at pumpkin time!

What is a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. In a CSA program, participating members of the community pay an up front fee at the beginning of the season, and they then enjoy an allotment of food when it ripens. Basically, you are buying a "share" of the year's production. Typically shares are often sold out by the January prior to planting time. The community benefits greatly from having access to local farm fresh food. CSA programs help keep small farms alive and healthy and part of our community, where they belong. We are not certified organic but we grow food using organic and sustainable practices:
no pesticides - no hormones - no chemicals.

How many people does a share feed?

We have found every family differs on consumption depending on what percentage of their diets consist of vegetables. Because serving portions and eating habits vary so much, we can't say "how far" a share might go. On the next page, we give you some samples of share sizes. We will work hard to provide abundance, given the fate of Mother Nature. Nature provides no guarantees - we can't offer any either. But with diversified crops, we expect most will prosper and if one fails, another will fill its place. We are dedicated to being your farmers, working for you to deliver quality and quantity in a responsible manner for your healthy eating and pleasure.

What do you get?

Subscribers receive weekly shares of produce that's in season for 24 weeks beginning May 7th. through October 15th. Early in the season, shares tend to be light, containing mostly greens and salad fare. Into the summer, shares will contain more variety. (See our crop list on other side.) Produce is harvested fresh - most less than 24 hours before pick-up time. Some delicate items - like sweet corn, lettuce, herbs - are picked that morning. Even though we sell some of our produce outside of our CSA program, we make sure our subscribers come first.
CSA customers get the freshest and the best we have.

Watch your vegetables grow!

This year we welcome each share member to visit the farm to help cultivate a new relationship with food. We ask that you come at least 3 times to observe (or help, if you wish) during the growing and harvesting process. Renew and deepen your relationship to community and the land. You may bring a guest with you to share this enriching experience.
OUR FARM BECOMES YOUR FARM!

Do you like farm fresh eggs?

We raise cage-free Rhode Island Red and White Leghorn hens. They eat a vegetarian diet of formulated feed plus fresh greens we give them. Purchasing an egg share assures you a supply of fresh eggs..

Fresh Poultry

Treat yourself to the wonderful taste of FRESH chicken - there's a big difference between local fresh and store-bought. This season we are offering 5 fryers ranging from 4 to 5 pounds each, as an add-on to your basic share options.

Flowers

Our cutting garden will contain a selection of flowers to make a beautiful bouquet. Dahlias, sunflowers and other varieties will bloom and last until the first frost. We offer a U-Pick option (12 stems) for those who have time to put together their own creation or we will pick a bouquet for you.

It's time to stop and smell the flowers!
