Something exciting is happening! For many years, we have believed that a diet of local food is healthier, better for our local economy, and leaves a lighter carbon footprint. Now, you are realizing it too!
This “eat local” trend is part of a larger nation-wide movement that is growing! We thank you for supporting our farm and our community. Part of supporting a local farm is understanding that there are seasons of availability when it comes to produce. Tomatoes are just not available in April! Our planting season starts in our green house and hoop houses in January, and we offer cool weather crops like leafy greens, radishes, peas, and many herbs. As the season progresses, more produce is available. Early summer brings more lettuces, beans, cucumbers, greens, onions, carrots, and the like. As we shift into the dog days of summer, red-ripe tomatoes make their grand appearance in the fields and on your plate! We finish out the growing season with an extensive selection of winter squash and pumpkins, including many types for cooking/baking and carving.
And eggs! How could I mention our list of food products and not list eggs?! Pheasant Fields Farm is part of an agricultural historical picture of Kitsap County. Silverdale was once touted, “The Egg Capital of the World” and our farm was one of the farms that supplied the world with eggs! Though we don’t have 5,000 chickens like we did in the glory days, our flock produces an abundant supply of eggs year-round for our community. Eggs are available at Farmer’s Markets and on the farm.
