Before we talk about our farm- let's talk about sharing!
A few years ago, Russell and Ardis Swank, at the request of the North Kitsap Fishline, agreed to allow this local Food Bank to use their land to grow vegetables. It became known as "The Swank Grow & Share Farm." Over 2 tons of produce was grown in this garden beginning in the 2019 season and donated to NK Fishline to share with the community. With every passing year, the vegetable production increases. We are proud to be able to help with such a worthy endeavor!
Pheasant Fields Farm is a family-run operation owned by Nikki Johanson. The farm has been in the family for over 70 years.
Originally the farm was a part of a homestead purchased by Pete Peterson, a logger, in 1885. His nephew, Conrad Peterson developed it into an egg ranch in the early 1900′s. Nikki’s parents, George and Margaret Juricich, purchased the farm in 1949 and retired from the egg business in 1980. Since then the farm has become more diversified by adding other animals and larger-scale vegetable production. |
We have expanded our planting areas to more than 6 acres even though we lost more than 5 acres of the original 15 acre plot when the SR 3 freeway was constructed. An adjoining 5-acre wooded parcel was purchased for farm expansion and is utilized for several special seasonal events.
We are especially pleased to display pictures taken in the early 1930′s after the home was constructed, with special thanks to Margaret Weems and her late brother, Earl Peterson, two of Conrad’s children. We feel privileged to share these photographs with the public. Please feel free to drop by!
